Carotid arterial pulse tracings were analyzed in 200 normal males and females in order to establish normal values for each wave type and sex of various hemodynamic parameters obtainable from the tracings. The parameters determined in this study were left ventricular ejection time, upstroke time, reduced ejection time, ascending index, incisura index, P/F ratio, elasticity index and dicrotic index. And the wave types of the tracings were divided into four .groups, namely .the catacrotic, anacrotic, plateau and montanic types. Some of the parameters deter fined varied with the wave types, as expected, and few parameters obtained even from the same type of tracing showed significant differences between males and females. In addition the incidences of the various wave types also varied with age and sex. These facts sugge-´ sted that the normal values of these parameters ,hould be determined for each age group as well as for each wave type and sex, thus the clinical application of these parameters would be considerably limited.
